3 Shot At Unauthorized Music Fest In Bridgeport, Police Say

Three people were shot and injured during a large unauthorized music event at a Bridgeport park that drew more than 200 people.

The incident took place in Bridgeport around 4 p.m., Thursday, April 13 at Seaside Park in the area of West Beach.

Bridgeport officers were sent to Seaside Park on reports of a large crowd of more than 200 people gathered for an unauthorized music event, said Capt. Kevin Gilleran, of the Bridgeport Police.

Adults and children of all ages were at the event. At approximately 6:10 pm officers reported hearing multiple shots fired and ran toward the gunfire, Gilleran said.

Three people were shot during this incident, Gilleran said. The victims are a 24-year-old man from Bridgeport, a 23-year-old woman from New Haven County in Waterbury, Connecticut, and a 23-year-old woman from Bridgeport. 

 All the victims were treated at area hospitals for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

The patrol division quickly arrested the primary suspect in the shooting. He has been identified as 24-year-old Christopher Lloyd Rooche (aka Trey Johnson) of Bridgeport.

Rooche has been charged with:

  • Three counts of assault
  • Risk of injury
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Unlawful discharge of a gun
  • Stealing a firearm
  • Carrying a pistol without a permit
  • Weapons in a vehicle 
  • Possession of a large-capacity magazine
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Reckless driving
  • Engaging police in pursuit
  • Inferring with a police officer

He is being held on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, April 14.

Two additional people were arrested on charges related to the event at Seaside Park. 27-year-old Rashad Smith of Bridgeport was charged with:

  • Possession of a hallucinogenic substance with intent to sell
  • Possession of narcotics with intent to sell
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Weapon(s) in a vehicle
  • Possession of a large-capacity magazine
  • Criminal possession of a firearm
  • Operation of a drug factory. 

Smith's bond is set at $35,500 and Smith is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Friday, April 14.

Leanna Phillips, age 25, of Bridgeport, was also arrested and charged with interfering with a police officer. She is being held on a $5,000 bond.

This is an ongoing investigation.
